Media Literacy Hub in Nerkin Karmiraghbyur

The media literacy hub operating at the secondary school of the border village of Nerkin Karmiraghbyur in the Tavush region continues its active work, organizing educational and recreational activities for the village youth. The club was established within the framework of the “Resilience through Media Literacy” program, implemented by the “For Equal Rights” Educational Center NGO with the support of the human rights organization “Freedom House.”

Over the past two years, the hub has initiated various projects, including the creation of a board game on media literacy. This year, a student of the school, Shahane Ayvazyan, undertook a new initiative by compiling an informational booklet presenting the history, cultural characteristics, and historical sites of the border village. She based her work on the knowledge and skills acquired during various courses held in the hub.

To develop the informational booklet, Shahane collected oral histories from the village’s elderly residents, launching this process during Media Literacy Week. Thanks to this initiative, the border village of Nerkin Karmiraghbyur has become part of national events dedicated to media literacy. The booklet will be ready by the end of the year, serving as an important means of preserving the community’s history.
